Seniors – 5-1 (w)

Albert Park eventually ended up comfortable winners in what was for most part, a keenly contested encounter against Monash Villarreal, played out in 30 degree heat. After some early sparring between two evenly matched sides, it was Monash who had the first clear opportunity. After some neat interplay, the Monash number 9 found himself clear through on goal, only to drag his effort wide. Albert Park soon responded with a chance of their own on the half hour mark, when a Franco Perez free-kick, hit from 30 yards out was neatly tipped over the bar by the Monash goalkeeper. The Parkers took the lead from the resulting corner, when after a good save from the goalkeeper, and some desperate defending, JOSH FROST pounced on a loose ball to make the score 1-0. That’s how it looked like staying until the break but just before half time, Monash were awarded a dubious looking penalty which was confidently stroked home by the Monash number 17.
Albert Park looked the stronger side after the break, with the front three of Frost, Hendry and Cassin causing problems for the Monash defence. The Parkers re-took the lead on the hour mark when a Lucas Cassin corner was again turned home by JOSH FROST after another goalmouth scramble. Monash began to push more players forward but were struggling to create any clear-cut chances thanks to some strong defensive work by the Parkers back-line and midfield three and thanks also to some brilliant goalkeeping from John Marcusso who was able to keep out a couple of vicious looking long range efforts. This led to spaces opening up in behind the Monash Defence and after 70 minutes, Albert Park took full advantage, increasing their lead to 3-1 when DOM HENDRY strode forward and neatly finished in off the post. The remainder of the game was played out in a similar fashion with Monash pushing numbers forward, and Albert Park looking to catch them on the counter. This paid dividends for the Parkers with two more breakaway goals scored late on, both converted by LUCAS CASSIN to send the Parkers faithful home delighted with a 5-1 win. Overall, a fantastic team performance and a solid start to life in State League 4 East.
